Art and Liturgy: Rend, Turn, Follow

We met on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 for a night of art, reflection, and communal making.

Mezzo opened at 5:30pm, and participants had time to see the show. Then, a little after at 6pm we began a time of liturgy and reflection led by Pastor Bob Bernhardt and Pastor Paul Gaschler. We started in the gallery with a focus on REND. Pastor Bob lead us through a spoken liturgy, and Pastor Paul shared his new song, Rend. We then communally tore fabric, viscerally experiencing what it means to rend. We moved to the sanctuary of Holy Cross (just across the driveway) to reflect on TURN. We laid our fabric on the altar rail, and participants had time to pray there if they wished before we sang a hymn and spoke Psalm 130 responsively. As we headed out into the gardens, everyone grabbed a second piece of fabric. Pastor Bob led us in a second time of rending, reflecting on how our repentance helps us to more faithfully FOLLOW Christ and serve our neighbor. Then, we headed back to the gallery for refreshments and more time to see the show!

Art + Liturgy events help us to slow down, engage in looking at the art, exploring the exhibition themes, and participating in sacred moments as a community of art lovers and believers.
