Let Children Hear the Mighty Deeds
Hymn 867 vs. 1 & 2 Lutheran Service Book

Let children hear the mighty deeds
Which God performed of old
Which in our younger days we saw
and which our parents told.

So make to them His glories known,
His works of power and grace
And we’ll convey His wonders down
through every rising race.

The Saxon immigrants, who established the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod
and founded the early congregations including Holy Cross, paid special attention
to the education of children.

We must remember the establishment of schools coincided with the founding
of congregations. Holy Cross School predates the congregation of Holy Cross
by eight years. Through the years Holy Cross paid special attention to our
children. The congregation always adapted to changing times and enhanced the
ministry to children.

Besides support of Lutheran primary and secondary education, Holy Cross
provided a mix of programs including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School,
and social groups such as PALS, Walther League, and a youth group in later
years.

Today, Holy Cross continues to provide Sunday School, Vacation Bible School,
and provides a facility and support to the Lutheran Community Center.

Today’s children are tomorrow’s disciples of Jesus. We are all part of
a living heritage and a living embodiment of a chain of continuity.
